If you’re curious about how microblading could work for you, we’d love to discuss your goals in a relaxed consultation.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo technique that creates fine, hair-like strokes to mimic the natural appearance of individual brow hairs. Unlike traditional eyebrow tattoos, which often look more solid, microblading focuses on precision, using a manual hand tool to deposit pigment into the skin’s upper layers. This method is particularly suited to those with fine or sparse brows, as it can be adjusted to suit your natural brow shape and density.
The technique works best for people with lighter skin tones, as the contrast between pigment and skin helps achieve a more natural look. For those with darker skin, alternative methods like powder brows or ombré shading may be more effective. At Nata’s Makeup in Bristol, we assess each client’s skin type, brow shape, and lifestyle to determine whether microblading is the right choice for you. Whether you’re after subtle definition or more volume, the goal is always to enhance your features in a way that feels authentic to you.
What to expect at your appointment
Your microblading appointment at Nata’s Makeup begins with a thorough consultation to discuss your brow shape, skin type, and desired outcome. We’ll take time to understand your lifestyle—whether you’re prone to sweating, have sensitive skin, or prefer minimal touch-ups—and tailor the design accordingly. On the day, your brows will be mapped out using a pencil to ensure symmetry, and a numbing cream will be applied to minimise any discomfort during the procedure.
The actual microblading process takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of your brow shape. You’ll be seated comfortably, and Nata will work carefully to create strokes that follow your natural brow direction. Aftercare instructions will be provided, including how to cleanse and moisturise your brows in the first few days. It’s normal to experience slight redness or swelling, but this settles within a few hours. We recommend avoiding sweating, swimming, or picking at your brows for at least 48 hours to allow the pigment to set properly.
Healing & aftercare
The healing process is crucial to achieving the best possible results with microblading. In the first 24 hours, your brows will look slightly darker than the final outcome, as the skin retains excess pigment. Over the next 7 to 10 days, the pigment will fade slightly as the outer layer of skin flakes away—this is completely normal and part of the healing process. During this time, you’ll need to follow strict aftercare instructions, including applying a recommended healing ointment and avoiding any products that could irritate the skin, such as makeup or exfoliants.
By the time your brows have fully healed (around 4 to 6 weeks), the pigment will have settled into its final form, blending seamlessly with your natural brow hairs. It’s important to note that microblading isn’t permanent—your skin will gradually shed pigment over 12 to 18 months, at which point a touch-up may be needed. We’ll guide you on how to maintain your brows between sessions, including gentle cleansing and avoiding prolonged sun exposure, which can fade the pigment faster.
Is it right for you?
Microblading is a versatile technique, but it’s not suitable for everyone. If you have very dark skin, a history of keloid scarring, or skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, alternative methods like powder brows might be more appropriate. Similarly, if you’re prone to excessive sweating or have very oily skin, the pigment may fade more quickly, requiring more frequent touch-ups. During your consultation, we’ll assess whether microblading aligns with your skin type, lifestyle, and expectations.
Another consideration is your commitment to aftercare. Microblading requires careful attention in the first two weeks to ensure the pigment heals correctly. If you’re not prepared to follow the aftercare routine, the results may not be as natural or long-lasting as intended. For those who are suitable candidates, microblading offers a convenient way to achieve beautifully defined brows with minimal daily effort. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to discuss the pros and cons in detail during your consultation.
