BIAB Nails in Bristol — Builder Gel That Strengthens
From £48 · approx. 1 hr 15 min

BIAB is what Nata Beauty Bristol is known for. Every BIAB appointment includes a full Russian dry manicure as prep — electric-file cuticle work, clean shaping, and the cuticle finish people come back for. That's why £48 BIAB here is different from £35 BIAB at a high-street nail bar: the 25 minutes of prep before any gel touches the nail.
The studio is at 10 Chandos Road in Redland, uses single-use files and buffers with sterilised tools, and BIAB is the most-booked service. This page explains what BIAB is, why the Russian-manicure prep matters, and how it stacks against other manicure options.
What BIAB is
BIAB stands for Builder In A Bottle. It's a thicker structural gel (originally The GelBottle Inc., now also Aprés, Glitterbels, Bio Sculpture). Unlike standard gel polish, it cures into a flexible reinforcing layer that strengthens the nail underneath.
This means:
- BIAB strengthens nails instead of just colouring them
- It can be sculpted for short extensions or to fix breaks
- It flexes with the nail — fewer chips and lifts
- Lasts 3–4 weeks vs 2–3 for standard gel polish
- Removal is soak-off (no filing), which protects the nail plate
BIAB is right for nails that are weak, peeling, or breaking, and for anyone who wants longer wear than gel polish offers.
What Russian manicure prep means here
Most Bristol studios apply BIAB over a quick file-and-push: cream-softened cuticles, push them back with a stick, quick file for shape. That's normal.
At Nata Beauty, BIAB gets a full Russian dry manicure prep:
- Dry cleanse. No water soak. Cleanse with alcohol to remove residue.
- Electric-file cuticle work. Small electric file with fine-grit bits lifts and removes the cuticle and pterygium cleanly from the nail plate. This creates the neat cuticle line BIAB is known for.
- Side-wall cleanup. Dry back the skin at the nail's sides to show the full nail plate.
- Surface prep. Light buff with fine grit (not coarse) to remove oils and create a clean bonding surface.
- BIAB layers. Two thin layers brushed on and cured under UV/LED.
The Russian prep takes about 25 minutes of the 75-minute first appointment. It's why Nata Beauty BIAB grows out neat at the cuticle line instead of lifting from underneath — the standard failure when BIAB is applied over poor prep.

Pricing
First-time BIAB + Russian manicure: £48 (75 min). Book 1–2 weeks ahead; this fills fast.
BIAB infill + Russian manicure: £51 (85 min, every 3–4 weeks). Slightly longer because existing BIAB is filed back, the cuticle gap is reshaped, and you get a full Russian manicure refresh.
BIAB removal: £30 (30 min, soak-off only). Always book removal — never pick or peel. Picking removes a layer of nail plate, which is the biggest cause of BIAB-related damage.
Nail art add-on: £5 per finger for typical designs. Complex art is priced per design; see nail art page.

Frequently asked
BIAB (Builder In A Bottle) is a thicker, structural gel that's brushed on like a polish but cures into a flexible reinforcing layer. Gel polish (Shellac, OPI gel, etc.) is colour only — it doesn't add structure. BIAB strengthens the natural nail underneath, can be sculpted for length, and lasts 3–4 weeks before an infill. It's the right choice for clients whose own nails are weak, peeling or breaking; gel polish is the right choice for clients with strong natural nails who only want colour.
