Eyeliner Tattoo in Bristol — Defined Liner at Lash-Base Depth
From £330 · approx. 1 hr 45 min

Eyeliner tattoo gives you a visible liner you wake up with. Done well, it reads as a clean line at the lash base (closer to wet eyeliner than pencil) and holds for 2–3 years. Done badly, the line creeps upward and floats above the eye. The difference is depth, placement, and needle technique.
This page covers what eyeliner tattoo looks like, the three most-requested styles, the eye-specific cautions, and how it differs from the studio's other lash-line service — lash enhancement, which is not the same.
Eyeliner tattoo vs lash enhancement
The main confusion in PMU booking is these two services. They're done in the same eye area but produce completely different finishes.
Eyeliner tattoo = visible defined line along the upper lash base. You wake up with eyeliner on.
Lash enhancement = pigment between the lashes only, at the root, never above the lash line. No visible line. Just a darker lash base that makes lashes look denser.
Visual test: run an eyeliner pencil along your lash base in the mirror. That visible line above the lashes? That's eyeliner tattoo. Run the same pencil between lashes at the root only, with nothing showing above. That invisible dark base at the root? That's lash enhancement.
Pick one: Want to wake up with visible eyeliner? Book eyeliner tattoo. Want denser-looking lashes without a visible liner? See lash enhancement.
Three styles
Classic thin line. 1–2mm liner along the upper lash base, even thickness, no flick. The cleanest, most timeless option. Reads as wet eyeliner all day.
Graduated thickness. Thinner at the inner corner (1mm), fuller through the middle (2–3mm), tapering at the outer corner. Gives a subtle "open" effect.
Winged liner. Any of the above with a small flick past the outer corner. Subtle (3–4mm) or bolder (5–7mm). We typically recommend subtle; bolder wings age less gracefully.
Lower-lid liner is possible but not recommended — the tissue is thinner, migration is more likely, and the result ages less well than upper-lid work.
Style is decided at consultation and sketched in washable pencil. You can change your mind at mapping; the sketch isn't a commitment.

Depth and placement — why migration happens elsewhere
Migrated eyeliner is the most-cited horror story in cosmetic tattooing. It's not a flaw in the service itself; it's poor depth and placement.
Pigment deposited too high (in loose upper-lid tissue) or too deep (into the lower dermis where lymph circulation is high) gets dispersed outward over 5–10 years. The sharp line blurs into a smudge.
The technique at Nata Beauty Bristol places pigment:
- Exactly at the lash root, not above the lash line in loose tissue
- At single-needle depth into the upper dermis only (0.5–0.7mm), not deeper
- In tight overlapping passes, not scattered pixels, which keeps the line crisp through healing
The result integrates with the lashes instead of floating above them, and it stays put.
The appointment
Consultation and mapping (15 min). Style chosen, sketched in washable pencil, signed off.
Numbing (25 min). Topical numbing on lash line and lid, reapplied mid-session. Eye protection throughout.
First pass (25 min). Pigment along the lash base in a single overlapping pass. It looks 30–40% bolder on day one than healed.
Second pass (15 min). Build density where needed. Taper wing if applicable.
Final review (5 min). You look in the mirror. Adjustments can still be made.
Aftercare brief (5 min). Written instructions: keep dry for 48 hours, no mascara for 14 days, no eyelash extensions for 14 days.
Total: 90–105 minutes. Shorter than brow PMU because the area is smaller.
Healing — quick compared to lip blush, slower than brows
| Day | What you'll see |
|---|---|
| 0–2 | Line looks 30–40% bolder than healed result, slight swelling, eyes can feel tight |
| 3–5 | Fine scabbing along the line — flakes off naturally over a few days |
| 5–10 | "Ghosting" — line can look faint as dermal pigment settles |
| 10–28 | Colour returns and definition emerges |
| 42–56 | Perfecting session — any sparse spots filled, wing refined |
The healing period is the time to skip eye makeup. Mascara, eyeliner pencil and eye-area skincare go back into the routine at week 2; eyelash extensions wait until week 4 minimum.
Pricing
£330 first-time, including the 6–8 week perfecting session. Same flat rate as all PMU services. £150 colour boost for existing clients. Most refresh at 24–30 months.

Frequently asked
Eyeliner tattoo creates a visible liner line *above* the lashes. The healed result looks like you're wearing eyeliner. Lash enhancement deposits pigment *between* the lashes only — no visible line, just a darker base that makes lashes look denser. Eyeliner tattoo is the right service if you want to wake up with the look of eyeliner; lash enhancement is the right service if you want a subtler 'fuller lashes' effect without a visible liner. Both are at this studio — see the [lash enhancement page](/services/lash-enhancement-bristol) for the alternative.
